I bought a new drip machine today, an OBH Nordica "King of coffee". Found it at a 20% discount so I couldn't resist. It is the only drip machine besides technivorm moccamaster that is approved by the norwegian coffee association.
Brew time (under 6 mins) and temperature (92-96 degrees celsius) is perfect. This is done partly by having two separate heating elements, one for brewing water and one for the hotplate. Another nice feature is the high and narrow filter holder that seems to help saturate the grounds nicely (no showerhead). My first pot was made from 30 grams preground Java and about 5 dl water. I didn't have high expectations as I know that most drip machines will do best with a full pot, but the first cup was delicious! No sourness or bitterness, just an aromatic and balanced cup.
A new place called con-gusto has opened in downtown Oslo. It is in a part called "Grønland" and features a huge and pleasant locale, espresso and continental style lunch dishes. I went there with a friend of mine today and had a nice time. Didn't drink any coffee as I was pretty full after testing my drip machine :), but I did enjoy some fresh orange juice. I think the owners of this bar has been wise to go for such a big locale since norwegians seem to like some space.
